A variety of challenging and fun activities are planned for Afternoon of Fun, and I am looking forward to many riders and their fine steeds having a great time!
The equestrian area includes a small indoor arena, with seating for spectators. Weather permitting, there is also a larger outdoor arena.
Stall accomodations for horses are available, at a cost of $10.00 for the weekend. You will need to bring your own bedding, and strip the stall before you leave. There may also be room for portable corral setups.
If you are planning on coming with a horse (or horses), you MUST contact the Equestrian Marshal in advance at epona@ald.net , as far before the event as possible. The EqM will email you back to confirm. Please include the following information:
1. How many riders and horses are in your party, their authorization levels and SCA experience of both horse and riders (ridden at SCA events before, or first-timers, and any issues I should be aware of). ALL riders will need to make sure to bring their SCA membership card and their Equestrian Authorization card to the event. 2. The size of your rig (truck and trailer). 3. Date and time of day you plan to arrive - camping is permitted on site,
see the main event page for details. If you are camping, also the date you
plan to leave. 4. If anyone will be needing to authorize, so we can plan time for this.
5. If anyone coming is willing to help out as ground crew or marshal.
IMPORTANT: If your horse is coming from outside Ohio, you will need a current negative Coggins test (within 12 months), and a current health certificate (within 30 days). It will be REALLY helpful if you can bring a xerox copy of both of these for the Marshal to keep for her records.
We will have some loaner weapons available for use. Due to space, equipment and marshal limitations, we will most likely not have quintain, mounted boffer or jousting. As per Midrealm equestrian rules, helmets are mandatory for minor riders, and recommended for adult riders.
All equestrian activities will be held on Saturday only (October 4th). The tentative schedule is a riders meeting on Saturday morning, once most if not all riders have arrived. Next will be any needed authorizations, followed by games and competition, until we break for lunch. After lunch will be more games, and a hands-on discussion of weapons and games equipment construction.
If you have any questions, please email me at epona@ald.net - and I hope to see you at Afternoon of Fun!
