The fighting portions of the Weasel triathlons are open to all comers, even those who do not wish to try for the Weasel awards. The more the merrier. There will be prizes for the winning fighters, weasels or not. The Weasel Pup competition is available for Division III boffer fighters only this year, but there will be non-Weasel tournaments for Division I and Division II fighters as well. All the boffer tournaments will be double elimination. For the Iron and Wire Weasel tournaments, you should ask yourself a question. Is your wit and tongue as sharp as your blade? : Let’s Take This Outside! It is a variant of a round robin tournament. Once all participants are set to go, a name is pulled at random. This person chooses another participant and insults him/her hopefully creatively and good-naturedly (“Come sirrah, lend me thy jawbone that I might smite these Philistines!”) or says “Let’s Take This Outside!” As usual the challenged has choice of weapons for the duel. The advantage of insulting rather than challenging is that the opponent can either return the insult or make the challenge. That way they may be able to force their opponent to make the challenge. Once one says “Let’s take this outside!” they fight. A time limit will be imposed to keep the tournament moving, if the clock runs out on a competitor he must make the challenge. Once they fight they have a seat in the tavern together. Only unseated participants may be challenged until everyone has a seat. Once everyone is paired up initially, the rest of the names are continued to be drawn and challenges made until everyone has been the initial insulter. After that the round robin runs its course normally with one exception. Every time a fight occurs the winner decides if he and the loser switch seats or not. Once the round robin is finished, the pairs of people sitting together are partners for the single brawl round. Scoring is one point per victory in the round robin, plus one for being on the runner-up team in the brawl, plus two for being on the winning team. Should there be an odd number of competitors the round robin becomes a sort of musical chairs, and the odd person out has no partner for the brawl. However if the odd man out is runner-up in the brawl he gets two points since he has no partner to share it with, and if he wins the brawl he gets all four points. Style points can be added for novel insults and other schtick during the tournament.
